Queen Branding for Wendy B of Blush Asheville

When I photographed Wendy this summer, it wasn't just about creating a great one-off headshot. We were developing the next level brand for who she is as an entrepreneur. She started Blush Asheville in 2009 and has since grown it to be quite the team and resource for professional makeup here in western North Carolina (she's even the lead makeup artist on my team here at Studio 828). She and her team not only work 150+ weddings each season but also on shows on FOX, photo shoots with local and regional photographers, and in giving classes to women wanting to up their own makeup game. She doesn't need "just another headshot" what she needed was to showcase that she is the epitome of ladyboss ;-) She is fashionable, friendly, educated, and Asheville IS her market. Asheville IS her town.

As with any leader in their field, I think it's important to occasionally note where you came from. Where did you start? Where are you along the way? It helps to give you some perspective in just how much you HAVE accomplished and how you've had to do it. I admire Wendy so much. You don't ever see this woman sweat and lemme tell ya, it aint the powder. She keeps her eye on the prize in raising her son and setting the example for the women on her team.

Following her photo shoot I asked her to send me an email with the answer to the question(s) "Who did you have to become in order to get where you are today?" and "What would you say to your 20 year old self?"

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Wendy B of Blush Asheville.

Who I Have Had To Become…

In order to grow my business, I had to take a leap of faith about 5 years ago and leave my full time job in order to put all of my attention to Blush Asheville. When I created Blush by Wendy Ballance, LLC in 2009…it was just me & after years of building an amazing team, it was time to take my name off of the business brand because I knew…it was not just MY name any more.  Blush had made a name in the western North Carolina market, and I wanted to share it with all of the girls. Each and every contributor to our clients deserves not only respect but the acclaim that comes with bringing this vision to life. Blush Asheville was now our brand and today…we stand by BLUSH and wear our Black and Fuchsia colors proudly!  As of July 2017, Blush consists of 6 lead artists, 3 assistant artists and 4 hairstylists. The Blush team are not only co-workers…we are friends & for that I’m truly thankful. You will always see a few of us together running around town. We are not only great friends behind the scenes…we do what we have to do to make sure every client gets the respect and service they truly deserve. We have each others back!

To Kristen, Christie, Jen, Amanda, Sara, Zhenya, Jenna, Melissa, Raeven, Shelby, Magen, Nicole, and Marina….I truly thank you for joining me on this journey!

We can’t wait to see what’s next for the Blush brand!
