imagery is powerful

Imagery is powerful.

As a photographer, sometimes it's just as easy for me to get caught up in photography as a commodity; to be overwhelmed by it's presence in our everyday lives. And then I'm very swiftly reminded at how valuable photography is as a whole simply for the sake of time.

We aren't getting any younger, are we? That goes for me, for you,, for your kids, your parents too. We all have a reason to put it off, to wait for insert reason here but the fact of the matter is that the longer you wait, the longer the list of reasons you WANT to wait; losing weight, grey hair, wrinkles, and the list goes on. None of us wants proof of the fact that we are somehow succumbing to age.

HELLO! McFly! None of us is immune.

One of the things I love about my work as a creative, is that no matter what, I can see something special, something beautiful, something wise, something innocent, something powerful in each and every person I photograph and what I ADORE is when they trust me enough to bring it out in them, in their imagery. Because they WANT TO BE SEEN, even if it takes hours to let their guard down enough to capture it, they're willing to get there.

I want my imagery to now just showcase the person hiring me. I want my imagery to evoke, even if you're unsure of what it might bring out, I want it to bring out SOMETHING, ANYTHING. That is what this image does for me with Ka, the one above. Believe it or not, the concept was born from the movie Showgirls. My friend Kitti McMeel, a portrait photographer in California recreated the concept and it blew me away and when Ka came in for her session (she creates these AMAZING headdresses by the way) this concept kept calling to me. And, not even for the same reasons that it would for a movie like Showgirls but because theres a mysticism about it with Ka, a magic. This image will be in my portfolio forever now and it will always hold a place as a favorite because it tells a story about energy, and grace, and power, and chaos, and intention, and vulnerability. Gah! I love it!!!

What does this image say to you? Do you love it as much as I do? Maybe you hate it? That's okay too as long as you feel SOMETHING. Anything.

XoXo,

Cat
